Breaking the Silence

2017 Għanja tal-Poplu Winner, Maltese singer Jessica Magro, sits down in an exclusive interview with Muzika Recruitment Agency. She recounts her hobbies, experiences, dreams and aspirations.

Music holds a prestigious place in the heart of many, especially those who in some way, shape or form practice the art. In Jessica’s opinion, music brightens up the daily life of every individual, stating that, ‘Without music, life would be black and white’. ‘Music is Life! It makes all the sounds that we hear on a daily basis interesting!’, Jessica states.

Discussing the beginning of her musical career, Jessica says that, ‘I would not be able to live without music and singing. It has been ingrained in me since I was a little girl’. After starting her musical journey in 2002, Jessica has come far and made a name for herself locally. ‘I always remember me singing in front of the mirror or holding small "concerts" for my parents. So, it was natural for me to start formal singing lessons at 12 years old’, she narrates.

Jessica’s favourite musical genres are soft rock, pop music and ballads. ‘With pop music, you can develop many different sounds in the same style’, she explained. Discussing her composition style, she explained that, ‘that is what I try to create when writing my own songs’.

Jessica’s musical career is nothing short of astounding. After her victory in l-Għanja tal-Poplu 2017 with the song Meta r-ramel jitħallat mas-Silġ, Jessica went on to release 3 original singles, Fearless (2019), Break the Silence (2020), and Natural (2021).
